A German and Southern Happy New Year! (A Little Late)

New Years Dinner (640x424)

I just realized yesterday that I never clicked on “Publish” for the New Years’ post. So, even though it is now January 7, Happy New Year! Original post below.

Our New Years Day meal combines my husband’s German heritage and the Pennsylvania German area where we live with my southern roots. The tradition for the German and Pennsylvania German meal is pork and kraut. While the New Year meal of southern Arkansas was hog jowl, back-eyed peas, turnip greens and cornbread.

Our combined meal today consisted of pork and kraut along with black-eyed peas, turnip greens, cornbread with a little tomato relish for the peas and pepper sauce for the greens.

Happy New Year!
