A cold night and a leftover ham bone means one thing for dinner – split pea soup and a pan of cornbread. Hope this recipe helps to keep you warm during the cold winter weather.
Split Pea Soup
1 pound dried green split peas
1 ham bone or smoked ham hock
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 medium carrots, sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
8-10 cups water
1. In a 6-8 quart pot, combine all of the ingredients. Bring to a boil.
2. Reduce heat, cover and cook on low for 2 hours. Serve and enjoy!
